Lifelong learning as a policy

Early on in life, April wanted to be a teacher. Working her way through high school as a teacher aid in an after school care program, she spent a great deal of time trying to understand how people thought and learned. Her first year in college was spent taking teaching preperatory classes. But by the second year, she realized that teaching was not her calling.

Still wanting to communicate with people, she turned to web design/development. Teaching herself as much as she could about programming, she began her first site, The Nut House. She has since gone on to Portland Community College's Web Site Development program, where she was able to extend her education to include graphics development, interface development, and site navigation practices.

While she may not be teaching in a classroom, April still puts her education to use in working with clients. Through her communications training, she is better able to explain new concepts to her clients. It also enables her to be a better listener, and understand better what it is that her clients are saying.

But not all in her life is work. In her spare time, she enjoys listening to music, reading, and working on cars. Presently she owns a 1986 Toyota MR2 and is actively involved in the Toyota MR2 community.
